Water Filtration & Water Softening Systems
Dunedin Plumbing offers both water filtration and water softening systems. Water filtration systems come in a variety of sizes. Some are under sink systems that filter water at just one faucet while others are “whole house” systems that filter water for the entire home. A water softening system is a water filtration system, but it is specifically designed to soften hard water.
There are many different types of filtration systems. Which one is best for my home?
The answer to this question starts with having your water tested. Once you know what is in your water picking the right filtration system is not hard. The professionals at Dunedin Plumbing can help you choose the right option for your home based on the size of your family and the make-up of your water.

Comparing Water Softening Systems & Water Filtration Systems
Water Softening Systems
Whether you are on city water or you have your own water well system, the water in our service area is considered “hard”. Water Softening systems are designed to remove calcium, lime and magnesium from your water and eliminate “hardness”. Most systems use salt and ion exchange resins. When the calcium and magnesium are removed, they are replaced by sodium ions. A water softening system will effectively protect your homes plumbing systems from scaling and calcium build-up. It will not eliminate other water problems such as water chlorination, iron build-up, sulfur, sediments, and bacterial contamination. For that you will need a water filtration system. Dunedin Plumbing custom builds the water softening systems we install based on the needs of the customer. The size of the home and how many people the system will serve dictates the scope of the system. All of our Fleck 5600 systems come with a 3 year warranty and can be rebuilt and re-bed when the resin eventually wears out.
Water Filtration Systems
Water filtration systems can be customized to treat specific compounds that are in your water. Water testing will reveal exactly the levels of unwanted contaminants such as fluoride, pesticides, sulfur, iron, chlorine, sediments of various kinds and other toxins. If you are on city water, you can also obtain this information from your utility provider. Dunedin Plumbing offers both whole house systems that treat the water at its PoE or point-of-entry, as well as smaller systems that can be installed in your kitchen. Dunedin Plumbing prefers the Everpure Filtration System. Depending on the size of the home and the requirements on the system either an H104 or H300 cartridge will be installed. These systems filter water down to .5 microns and will last up to 1 ½ years.
So, What System is Right for You?
The simple answer to that question is depending on your water supply, you may need both. Some whole house systems can filter toxins, nitrites, nitrates, sulfur, sediments, bacteria, and other contaminants as well as softening water.
