Gas Line Installation & Repair

Natural Gas is an economical and efficient energy source

Natural gas and propane gas continue to grow in popularity as it’s an economical way to run appliances like hot water heaters, stoves, ovens, fireplaces, firepits, and outdoor kitchens. Because of its growing popularity, Dunedin Plumbing is doing more gas line installation and repair than ever before. So, whether you need new gas lines installed, existing lines extended, repairs or replacement of existing gas lines, we can do it all.

What To Do If You Suspect You Have a Gas Leak

Any gas leak can be a dangerous matter.  Gas has no odor, so gas companies add a scent of sulfur similar to rotten eggs.  If you suspect your home has a gas leak you should contact Dunedin Plumbing immediately.  If you know where your main gas valve is, turn it off and vacate the property and wait for us to arrive. Some of the signs you may have a gas leak are the smell of rotten eggs.  If you can hear a hissing noise near the gas appliance, it could mean you have a crack in a gas line.  And lastly, if you have a sudden spike in your gas bill but your usage hasn’t increased, you could have a leak. Here are some of the main causes of gas leaks in homes:

  • Lack of Proper Ventilation – Appliances that run natural gas have exhaust fans and ventilation systems to vent excess carbon dioxide. As appliances get older, these exhaust and ventilation systems may break or function less efficiently. We suggest that’s it’s always a good idea to install a carbon dioxide detector in your home.  These are inexpensive and effective and will give you peace of mind.
  • Loose Connections on Appliances – As appliances age it’s possible for the gas line connections to the appliances to become loose. This can be dangerous if an appliances flame comes into contact with airborne gas.
  • Gas Line Age – Depending on the age of your home, the gas line piping could be steel, copper, brass or CSST, (corrugated stainless steel tubing). While galvanized steel pipe will have a lifespan of up to 50 years, brass piping can last up to 70 years. If you’re considering re-piping of installing extensions or a completely new installation, we recommend brass lines.
